Miami Blues

Miami Blues

Repertory

Alec Baldwin stars in Miami Blues as a sociopathic criminal who shacks up with a prostitute (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and builds a life of domesticity he juggles with his criminal activities. On his tail is dogged cop Hoke Mosely (Fred Ward).

Baldwin is brilliant as the unhinged criminal tearing through Miami while director George Armitage (Grosse Pointe Blank) perfectly balances the humor and violence in this singular crime comedy that betrays the quirky influence of producer Jonathan Demme (Something Wild).

"Miami Blues gleefully presides over the happy marriage of two solid but usually separate traditions in U.S. movies: film noir, with its emphasis on the sleazy and the powerless, and screwball comedy, with its celebration of the romantically eccentric."
