Join Dr. Marvin Dunn and The Miami Center for Racial Justice (MCRJ) for a special afternoon in partnership with Coral Gables Cinema, in support of MCRJ’s mission to preserve and share Florida’s often-overlooked Black history. Dr. Dunn will screen two of his documentary films, Rosewood and Uncovering Rosewood followed by a discussion of their significance and their relation to his ongoing work to establish the Rosewood Historic Park — preserving two historic sites tied to the 1923 Rosewood Massacre, one of Florida’s most pivotal and painful events. Attendees will also have the rare opportunity to view Rosewood artifacts.
This event supports MCRJ’s broader mission: advancing racial education by preserving the stories, sites, and artifacts of Black history and building a Miami rooted in justice — where knowledge empowers, voices are amplified, and the past informs a future of racial equity and mutual understanding.

Dr. Marvin Dunn, a native Floridian, is professor emeritus and a retired chairperson of the Department of Psychology at Florida International University. Born during the Jim Crow era, he brings a perspective to black history that has been missed, distorted, and minimalized in the past. He co-authored The Miami Riot of 1980: Crossing the Bounds (1984). He authored Black Miami in the Twentieth Century (1997), A History of Florida: Through Black Eyes (2016) and The Kingsleys (2022). Dr. Dunn is the founder and President of the Miami Center for Racial Justice, a non-profit organization created to tell and preserve the true black history of Florida – especially those stories that are difficult to hear. Dr. Dunn is a renowned expert on race and ethnic issues in America and a nationally respected scholar, author, historian, documentary filmmaker, and community activist. He lives in Miami, Florida.
